Midevil 3: Subterranean Homesick Blues
As the title suggest this expansion brings the Midevil board game kicking and screaming below ground. It can be played with or without Midevil 2. It adds a totally new 16 tile dungeon to explore, 32 spell cards and a revised rule set.
Instead of just grabbing the Necronomicon and returning to the Altar, you now have to brave the depths of the Dungeon and return the book to its underground resting place. Movement in the dungeon is different from above ground. You cannot move backwards and each time you reach the end of the path you place a dungeon tile from the stack, to build the map as you go. For each new tile you enter a fate die is rolled, this will either cause Skeletons to erupt from the ground beneath your pawn , loose a turn or acquire you tasty new spell cards. For those of you that are Army of Darkness fans, you’ll appreciate the consequences of getting the wrong wording for a spell. Each spell card reacts with the others in a unique way and all effects go off at the same time, causing more skels to join the battle, event cards to be drawn or switching spells for more deadly happenings. There are even two, three spell card combinations that can win the game, if you can find the underground altar that is…
The card and tile art is good but not as varied or as humorous as most of Twilight Creations stuff.
Overall Midevil 3 is not an essential or an outstanding expansion, but it does add another level of spell casting mayhem to an already great game. Klaatu Bora Necktie baby!!!!
