The True Lineages are the backbone of the Order of Hermes. In these four Hermetic Houses, each magus was taught by a magus of the House, and that master-apprentice relationship goes back to the founders. This sourcebook details the four True Lineages, including rules for original research, unique forms of magic, and new Virtues and Flaws.

Softcover.

Houses of Hermes: True Lineages is one of three sourcebooks about one of the different types of wizard houses or traditions in the order.

True Lineages deal with the 4 houses which are only comprised of the descendants of the original Founder, in the sense of teachings, not blood realtives. A bit puritan and snobbish, but all are exoperts in their field.
House Bonisagus are descendants from the wizard Bonisagus, who codifyed a dozen of different magical traditions into a single unified theory - Hermetic Magic. This chapter also deals with Original Research - projects than bend and break the stablished magical laws. The mechanics have been cleaned up greatly from earlier editions, and offer much more inspiration.
The House Guernicus are the Quaesitors - the investigators, lawyers and judges of the order, dealing with legal issues and upholding the law. House Mercere is (save a few) the Redcaps - the non-magical messengers and couriers of the Order. This book deals expertly with the organization and daily life of these houses.
House Tremere was once the dark, plotting, hierachical house. They are now more described as a highly organized militaristic group, preparing for the inevitable struggle or return of old enemies...and they're also dark, plotting, hierachical...

I find the book invaluable if you're about to play a member of one of these houses, or you're involved in some of the other subjects (Research, legal issues, information network). Even if not playing one of the True Lineage houses, information could easily be relevant.
