Utilizing the forces of magnetism, players take turns placing hovering magnetic discs on the board in order to impose chaos on their opponent. This chaos, which causes discs that are in play to come together in a flash of magnetic frenzy, results in scoring opportunities. Stacks of more than one disc (towers) are counted as points and the player with the most points at the end of a game wins.

Polarity is suitable for beginner players of 8 or older - but will provide a deep, intriguing and ongoing challenge to more advanced players. Polarity encourages the testing of new tactics each time you play, and is never the same game twice. Every time you play, you will learn something new about the game.

  • Ages - 8 and up
  • Players - 2 Game
  • Length - 10-20 min.
  • Time to Learn - Short
  • Play Depth - Medium
  • Difficulty - Easy

Polarity is a game that you learn more about the more you play it.

The basic idea is simple: use magnetic discs together with strategy to cause your opponent to make a mistake. The rules can be learned within ten minutes, and the hardest part for the beginner (which actually isn't that hard at all) is feeling how to place "leaners" (the standing pieces that lean on a magnetic "cushion" against your flat foundation pieces).

As long as you stay within the rules, there are loads of ways in which you can try to defeat your opponent. Do you play defensively on the edge of the board, or go on the offensive near the centre? Will you play your own game, or try to read and react to what your opponent is doing? Will you try for double or even triple leaners, or is that too much of a gamble? The possibilities are many.

You can also practice Polarity on your own, which means it doesn't have to stay in a cupboard until you can find someone else to play it with. Also, as the board is actually a canvas mat, a game in progress looks cool just laying on a table.

Polarity must be the only board game in the world in which you literally have to use the force (magnetic force, that is). It's very simple for even non-gamers to pick up and games don't take much longer than forty-five minutes to an hour. I highly recommend it!
