Poison is a simple card game where players are mixing potions - cards in three colours (red, purple, blue) and five values (1, 2, 4, 5 & 7) - in cauldrons (piles of cards). Each cauldron can only contain one type of potion and only one of each can be brewed at a time. On their turn, players add a single card to a single potion and evaluate it by summing the cards in the cauldron. If the sum is over 13 they take all the cards from the cauldron and add them to their face-down scoring pile, leaving the one they just played behind in the cauldron. Once all potion cards have been played, players add up the cards in their score pile and the lowest total wins. However, the player with the most potions of each colour may remove those potions from their score pile (i.e. they score 0), so there is a calculated risk to which potions to take and which to avoid.
It's easy and quick to learn and play and is surprisingly fun, tense and engaging for such a simple game.
