Houses of Hermes: Mystery Cults is one of three sourcebooks about the different houses and traditions in the wizard's order.
This book deals with the 4 houses called Mystery Cults. To put it in a nut shell, Mysteries are defined as secrets and magical abilities taught through certain rituals in the organized house. Some are abilities also seen elsewhere, but most are secret and unique for this particular cult. The more you commit yourself, the more you sacrifice, the deeper you get into the organization and hierachy, and the more arcane secrets open up to you.
The book offers some great and long needed expanded information about the House of Bjornaer - the shapeshifting wizards of germanic origin. Also, the subject of House Merinita's faerie Magic is buch better treated and defined in this edition.
All in all a fine, exciting and inspirational book, invaluable if you want to play a character from one of the treated houses.
The Ars Magica mechanics of Mysteries is defined in this book, but some Mysteries are only mentioned by name, with the exact details found in yet another sourcebook: The Mysteries Revised Edition.
