Houses of Hermes: Societas is one of three sourcebooks about the different Houses or traditions of the wizard's order.
This book deals with the 4 Houses which are comprised of loose associations of like-minded wizards. Those who see outsiders not as inferior and enemies, but as potential brothers, thus expanding ranks and recieving new input.
In my opinion, this book is invaluable if you want to play a magus from one of these houses. It offers much expanded information on the mentality, history and organization of the houses. It has loads of insiration for creating a character. ALso, it offers additional rules for magic, abilities, virtues and flaw etc.
Although some hardcore fans of prior editions resent some of the changes, i find most if not all to be much better than ever.
The main changes are with the House of Flambeau - the fire-wizards of the Order, and the long time troublemakers and fighters. In the new edition, they're not so hot-headed and impulsive goons as some have seen them before (well, not all of them). Now, theyre despribed as the champiopns and defenders of the order, and righter of wrongs - as they see it.
The most diverse house - Ex Miscellanea - offers a lot of new, sample sub-traditions for use or inspiration, alsong with guidelines for creating own.
