The Growing Hunger Expansion introduces new game mechanics and three exciting new scenarios to challenge players as well as a two-player mini-game. Take control of four new Heroes, each with a highly-detailed plastic miniature as well as seven new Red Zombies for use as Plague Carriers, Grave Dead, or to increase the Zombie Horde. New modular game board sections expand the town and feature unique buildings such as the Supermarket, Library, and Antique Shop. New game cards give Zombies a chance to steal weapons from the Heroes and add powerful Double-Handed weapons to the Heroes’ arsenal, such as Garden Shears and the Fence Post.

What the description of the game above doesn't cover is how great the additional rules are, and the fact they are so easy to integrate into the Last Night on Earth scenarios, by each optional rule being given a points rating. So say you give the heroes an edge by adding Free Search counters (3pts), that can be balanced by giving the Zombie player "Grave Dead" (3pts). Or alternatively if the you find the zombies are always winning scenarios, you could give the heroes "Well-stocked buildings" without giving the zombie player anything. This flexibility gives additional replay to the old scenarios from LNoE, as well helping in designing your own.

There have been some complaints in other reviews about the quality of the items in this expansion. I found there was an issue with colour matching between the board pieces in this set and the 1st print run of LNoE. It is understandable, considering one complaint about Last Night on Earth was the board was too dark. I've heard the difference isn't so bad if you have a later printing of LNoE. I didn't find a problem with any of the other new components or the boards themselves. The new hero figures and cards are great. Even with the mismatched colours, I didn't find it detracted too much from my enjoyment, so I wouldn't let it put you off buying this expansion.

I would have personally like a couple more board pieces or scenarios considering the price of this expansion, but the new rules make it a must buy (IMHO) if you enjoyed LNoE.
