Being a big fan of the PC Game I had to give the board game a try. We had 5 players and played the advanced rules. The game comes with standard and advanced rules, I recommend playing the standard rules first as the game takes a *long* time to play. We soaked up 6 hours and didn't even pass the first era! We were learning the game but I reckon experienced players are still in for a long haul. Aesthetically the game looks great, the board is huge and all the pieces are of good quality. All the familiar concepts are there; tech tree, resources, city improvements and trading albeit some implemented a little strangely. After a few hours of play it becomes apparent that the rules are not water tight and require a little ad-libbing, but it's not a huge drawback. I believe Eagle Games are about to publish Version 2.0 rules. Overall Civilization the Board Game has promise and I think after a few more games and as many rule tweaks it will be a winner.
