Welcome to the roaring twenties! The players represent notorious gangster bosses in the heyday of organized crime in Chicago. They try to take control of the main legal and illegal sources of profit - speakeasies, gambling houses, jazz clubs, and breweries/distilleries.

I first played Chicago Poker at the Essen game fair. The game is quick and simple to learn and a brilliant way to slowly tempt people into boardgames who might otherwise snub the hobby. This game is the middle ground between a poker style card game and a simple planning board game. Players build poker-hands on various enterprises around town and once a hand is completed a shoot out determines who wins the enterprise, which is code for you check which hand wins. As some of the cards are played face down there are plenty of opportunities to bluff and double bluff each other. Some special cards have been introduced that allow players to change their strategies slighty, which adds a little more variety. I like a play a couple of games once in a while, but I would not think that this game should fill an entire games evening as it is fundamentally a bit simple.
