The basic set provides all the materials needed to play Blue Moon, including the races of the fiery Vulca and the clever Hoax as well as a gorgeous game board, full colour rules, and three plastic dragon figures.

The story: The world of the Blue Moon is in chaos. Its god has abandoned it, and its people are in open war against each other. Blue Moon City lies in ruins but the power of world remains in the form of the three elemental dragons. In the ruins of the great city, the creative Mimix seek to dominate by their machinations, while deep below, the fiery Vulca seeks victory through molten force and the heat at the heart of the world.

The expansions provide the additional race decks of the lofty Flit and the wild Mimix.

Blue Moon is a great game to play if you only have an hour or , instead of buying two spare. Clearly owing its roots to CCG's, instead of collecting various cards in booster decks the players can invest in one of many pre constructed decks sold separately if they want to expend outside the two starter decks in the main game.

Game play is relatively straight forward, with each player bidding to win combat by playing increasingly high value cards, boosting their values with other effects until one player folds and the other wins that combat round. The mechanic is simple and effective, and it only takes three consecutive victories to win the game (by attracting three Dragons). Battles are fought using either earth or fire, with the starting player of each battle choosing which will be used for the duration of that particular combat. Each character card has a value for both, usually with one deck favouring one element over the other.

The oversized cards are high quality in both look and feel. The small game board and dragon pieces are not necessary but add to the feel of the game. Re-playability gets higher the more add on decks you own. There are options to build customized decks but I've not tried this so cannot comment on how well that works.

All in all a recommended game if you are willing to invest in extra decks.
