For the first time in over two decades, players of the classic World War II military strategy game Axis & Allies will be able to experience a revised edition of their favourite game.

The revised Axis & Allies, created under the direction of Larry Harris, the game's original designer, will feature more detailed game pieces, a beautifully charted, full-colour world map, and updated rules that promise to make play more exciting than ever. First produced in the early 1980s by Milton Bradley, an affiliate of Wizards of the Coast, Axis & Allies is a classic game of war, economics, and strategy.

This is the classic game we know and love, albeit with a few new ideas and twists tossed in the mix.

For those not in the know, Axis and Allies is an enjoyable game of WWII action where up to five players (and really, it is the most fun to have all five powers played by individual players) take on the role of the major countries involved (Germany, Japan, the UK, the US and the Soviet Union). The game is then played a bit like classic Risk, but with different units (10 in all) and more complex systems of building new units and earning capital to do so.

For those who have enjoyed the old version, there are a few inovations in this new edition. The most important ones are the addition of two new units: Destroyers, who can detect submarines, and artillery, who can support and thus improve the attack rating of infantry, along with new victory conditions (there are three ways to play the game, the difference being the amount of 'victory cities' needed to win) and a more focused way of developing new weapon technologies.

All in all, this is still a very good game, and the additions are only improvements in my eyes. Be warned, however, it will take many hours of play to complete a game of Axis and Allies the first few times you try it.
