On a seperate note, when we start the tournament, I assume that we will be playing with hidden scores. Will we also be playing with random hands?

Hidden scores doesn't realy make any difference.  It just means you have to use pen and paper to keep a tally of who has captured what during the game.

As for random hands, my feeling is that part of the skill in the game is choosing the right tiles to start the game with.

Having said all that I'm happy to go with the majority (or CZ's casting vote), after all I'm perfectly capble of loosing a game, no matter what rules we play!

For tournament I vote for the default settings - visible scores, non-random starting hand

I second the point about hidden scores. Random hands, however, might reduce some of the advantage of experienced players versus newbies, and after all making the most of the hand you're dealt is a skill in itself!

    Re: Konichiwa - Samurai Tournament

The only problem I have with open scoring is that it actually gives perfect information, which you don't get in the face-to-face boardgame (as the scores are kept hidden behind each player's screen)...

    Re: Konichiwa - Samurai Tournament

Ok I would like to kick of this tournament at the end of the week and I currently have this list of players

    CountZero
    Dobbie
    Steerpike
    Harry the Lime
    Poozle
    colin9
    Jernau25
    Ian Butty
    Earthquake
    Milarky
    Poozle
    Johnnyb
    Jonathan4
    Whitestone
    Andolini

Nice to see some new faces mixed in with the usual crowd. If your not on the list and want to be then reply in this forum.

I don't think a round robin will work due to the number of players, but it may lend itself to another game later on. Currently we have 15 players signed up, and would like at least one more to even things out. 4 x 4 would be ideal.

Going to play with hidden scoring as much as I hate it, but it does make for a more intense game, and as Harry said you can note down who is winning what. Also not going for Random hands, once you have played a few games and come up with a few strategies its good to have your starting hand setup ready.

So get practicing as there are only 5 days left.

    Thanks
    CZ

    Re: Konichiwa - Samurai Tournament

Just noticed something (didn't check the list properly before) I seem to have ended up with 2 entries.... Aka and Ruko, what should I do?  I think its probably my own fault because I made a couple of as I wasn't sure about being able to enter.

    Ok,

No problem, I should have re checked the list. Just pick a game and join it. I will try and find a 4th man for the other game.

    Thanks
