    Re: Konichiwa - Samurai Tournament

Sorry for the late entry into this - is there still room for another one?

Not played this one before, so I'll have to catch up quick!

    I'm in.

I've not heard of Mabiweb before - some very interesting games on here.

Signed up as user johnnyb (I'm so original)

The move to emial based turns for the comp seems a good one - even if it takes a week or two to play through a game it's probably quicker than trying to arrange BSW games involving more that 2 people!

    looking forward to this one.

    Re: Konichiwa - Samurai Tournament

Was wondering if it might be worth making this a 'round robin' tournament? Everyone plays everyone else keeps everyone involved all the time, and it's easy enough as we don't have to wait on people being available all the time.

Good idea, Harry, but do you not think that the larger games take out some of the element of luck from tile draws? I've not played a 2 player game yet, but even in the 3 & 4 player games you can gain a significant advantage from a good tile draw.

    Re: Konichiwa - Samurai Tournament

    Colin9 / Pikeman-

you can moderate the luck of the tile draws by choosing your starting hand wisely. This normally allows you to put in place a strong position, on which to build, although admitedly it can be frustrating if a key tile does not come out 'til late (but then you should have chosen it for your starting hand if it's that key to your strategy).

In the final analysis, unless the game ends prematurely by dint of a sneaky steerpike, everyone gets the same tiles to play so it's about how you optimise them.

I find two player Samurai rather dull and lifeless. Four player adds the most challenge and you get the whole board !

    Re: Konichiwa - Samurai Tournament

On a seperate note, when we start the tournament, I assume that we will be playing with hidden scores. Will we also be playing with random hands?

    Cheers

    Neil.
