    Re: Arkadia

why are we playing this as a series of two player games when it is clearly designed for, and is far superior as, a 3-4 player ?

    First blood to Steerpike !

    Steerpike 111:   Earthquake: 97

Sharpen those set squares, balance those spirit levels and build build build

Well played, Earthquake, it was a tough one, that's for sure.

    Re: Arkadia

    I thought I had 'Im!

A very close game, with Steerpike seizing victory on the very last wall placement on his last turn.

    Cheers Steerpike, well played.

    Re: Arkadia

And another result just in from the front...

After a nail-biting game, it's all been for naught as (after some frantic final calculations) we end up with a tie...

    Countzero 116 : 116 Earthquake

Cracking game Count...your last move almost pulled it off...

    Re: Arkadia

I've never seen a draw in Arkadia so that's pretty impressive.

Of course,  Count Zero has been training with the best....

I've come to the conclusion that Arkadia is all about the end game. The first 15-20 moves seem to count for very little unless you completey let your opponent run away with it. It's all about careful positioning for those last two turns. Being in a place to do a double build and getting your colour where you need it or your opponents strong suit destroyed.

It's an interesting game but really far better with three. IMnsHO

ps The results for the clash of the pikes is imminent. It's the last turn or the game and .. well, that would be telling.

    Re: Arkadia

Damn it, I thought I had you ;-)

I think I have lost against the Lime one. Made a few bad moves but have learn't from it.

Steerpike, For the tourney it plays better with 2 players. Makes my life easier especially if people drop out. But the final is another matter.

don't worry about me - I'd probably complain whatever the format. I'm only really happy when I'm being grumpy.

And, besides, it gives me an excuse if I lose.

    Re: Arkadia

As it stands Steerpike has nothing to complain about after registering win no.2

    Steerpike 121: Pikeman 113

A real hare and tortoise affair with Steerpike rushing off into an early lead and Pikeman biding his time before cashing in his first set of seals. With 3 moves left Pikeman missed his chance by picking the wrong card and this ultimately cost the game (7 coloured pieces available at the time). One move later Steerpike was gifted control of the finish and a few bonus seals by some more careless play.
Despite his best efforts in trying to make it exciting at the end, allowing Pikeman 3 blocks to add to the castle on his last turn and a clutch of seals into the bargain it was never going to be enough for this tortoise.

Well played, Steerpike. I shall now go away and kick myself...hard.

    Re: Arkadia

hehe - I thought you'd like that last move.

It offered a false hope and a fine opportunity to put down some of those seven men you had amassed but neglected to use :-)

    Re: Arkadia

Another match ends and I managed to get in a win.

    Count Zero : 108       Harry the Lime : 99

Well played Harry, I really thought I had lost that one until the penny dropped on the second to last round. I learn't an important lesson in these games, don't hoard your banners.

    Thanks

    Re: Arkadia

A win for pikeman at last.

    Pikeman 120: johnnyb 104

Another tense battle with johnnyb which was again decided in the last couple of turns. The permutations of the final scoring were too much to contemplate so it was a question of just going for it and hoping for the best. And this time it worked.

    Thanks for the game johnnyb.
