We went for a slightly staggered approach, starting with three games and then concluding with the final two. Otherwise it all passes in a blur - or at least it does with me.
In the opening three games Grimwold came out fighting, tossing his caber at the unwitting Steerpike who was still finishing his single malt in the club house. A stunning demonstration, on how the highland games should be played, ensued with Grimwold storming ahead 2-1
Round Two and Steerpike felt the wind up his kilt and the very real possibility of an early bath in the freezing waters of Loch Gormenghast.
This time the cards favoured the erstwhile kitchen boy and, with all to play for, Steerpike pulled it back to two games a piece.
The match now hung on the results of the last standing stone in the fifth game of the tie and it was anyone's guess which way the sporran would settle. As the crowd held its breadth Steerpike managed to pull one last haggis out of the bag and play an ordered clan on the final stone, to clinch victory.
Final Result: Steerpike 3 Grimwold 2
Great match, Grimwold. Thanks !
We don't stop playing games when we get old...... We get old when we stop playing games.
